Two schools that receive Expanded School Mental Health (ESMH) funds and one that is funded by Project AWARE have been designated as 2024-2-25 PBIS Tier 1 Model Schools. Both grants require participating schools to implement the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school wide model. The ESMH-funded Model Schools are Steenrod Elementary School (Ohio County) and Moundsville Middle School (Marshall County). Oak Hill High School (Fayette County) is the Model School funded by Project AWARE.
This is a tough designation to achieve. In order to qualify, a school must participate in a PBIS Academy conducted by the WVPBIS State Leadership Team and implement Tier 1 with fidelity for at least one year. Model Schools exemplify a high level of PBIS implementation with fidelity in a majority of features of the PBIS framework and show improved student outcomes.
