Mental Health Awareness Spirit Week at Wheeling Middle 💚

May 26, 2026 | News

Wheeling Middle School recently celebrated Mental Health Awareness Spirit Week to promote mental health, connection, and school community among students and staff. Activities throughout the week encouraged students to support one another, practice positivity, and engage in meaningful conversations surrounding mental wellness.

In addition, Wheeling Middle students and staff completed their Second Step lessons for this year, focusing on Tier 1 to strengthen social-emotional learning skills and support overall student well-being. Second Step is an approved evidence-based program for WVESMH initiatives. Highlights from the week included a student-created Wellness Wall featuring encouraging messages, donations of mental health awareness goodie bags provided by NAMI, and affirmation envelopes created by WMS Kindness Crew for students to share positive messages and appreciation with staff members.

Lainey Bartolovich, Expanded School Mental Health Coordinator at Youth Services System is very grateful to her students, staff and community partners for helping make this week a success!Â
