It has become customary at Moundsville Middle School to recognize our students that are going above and beyond what is expected to help their fellow students. We began recognizing these students during our “Thankful Thursdays” and reward the students with gift cards that are provided through the ESMH program with Youth Services System.
During the month of September, the students nominated peers for things such as sitting with a new student at lunch, helping a student with their locker, providing a peer with positive words or encouragement, and helping staff collect items for recycling. The students have bought into the idea of helping others and these small rewards and recognition have started a culture of helping others instead of only worrying about themselves.
