Moundsville Middle Student Gains Confidence to Dance

Mar 24, 2025 | News

A student at Moundsville Middle School has learned how self-confidence affects outcomes. At the beginning of the year, “Sarah” lacked self-confidence.  She participates in the 7th grade “Lunch Bunch” facilitated by Daniel Millhouse of Youth Service System. Dan uses lessons from Student Success Skills, an evidence-based program. In February, the group explored ways to improve self-confidence.  “Sarah” responded especially well to the lessons and worked hard to improve her confidence in her own abilities.  She learned to change her self-talk, replacing “I can’t” with “I have the skills.”

“Sarah” attends a dance studio that has a junior varsity and a varsity team.  Until now, she believed wasn’t good enough to try out for the varsity team and had resigned herself to remaining on the junior varsity team. However, after attending the groups she changed her thoughts enough to try out for the varsity team. She made it!

Dance, “Sarah”!
