Throughout the month of March, Steenrod Elementary School has been promoting empathy, compassion, and kindness among its students. Kindergarten through 5th grade classes have enthusiastically participated in Second Step’s Tier 1 Lessons focused on Empathy and Kindness during their weekly guidance sessions. Second Step is an evidence-based, Tier 1 program to help students build social-emotional skills. ESMH coordinator Kristen Breen of Youth Services System further enriched these lessons for Kindergarten and 1st grade students by guiding them to draw heartfelt acts of kindness, then beautifully combining all the drawings into a vibrant “Kindness Quilt” to powerfully illustrate how even the smallest acts of kindness come together to create a truly meaningful and lasting difference.
