Suicide Prevention & Response for the School Mental Health Professional

The WVDE Office of Student Support and Well-Being is collaborating with Prevent Suicide WV to host a webinar for school-based mental health professionals, including school counselors, school psychologists, social workers, school-based therapists, CIS coordinators, etc. This is a free webinar and CEUs for LPCs and School Psychologists are pending approval.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • learn the prevalence and significance of suicide occurrence;
  • learn a gatekeeper model of recognition, referral and additional responses to suicidal risk;
  • be introduced to best practices models in suicide prevention specific to safety planning and continuity of care.

About the Presenter

Barri Faucett, MA in Clinical Psychology, currently serves as the Director of Prevent Suicide WV and WV’s Adolescent Suicide Prevention and Intervention project. She oversees and implements directives to address suicide prevention and intervention in WV and her work involves the facilitation, monitoring, and evaluation of suicide prevention efforts throughout the state. Specifically, managing and developing program objectives, activities, procedures, and protocols for effective suicide prevention and intervention efforts; oversight and technical assistance in the implementation of evidence-based practices and working towards capacity-building initiatives for statewide suicide prevention efforts across systems and agencies.

Mrs. Faucett is a Master QPR,; safeTALK; ASIST; suicide2Hope and Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainer, providing training for thousands of professionals, consumers, and community members for increased awareness and efficient referral intervention procedures for at-risk individuals.
