This summer, NUSkool partnered with Summers County School Board of Education to leverage the Expanded School Mental Health program to actively support students through various initiatives. In June, we partnered with REACHH to provide free lunches every Thursday to Summers County students, ensuring they had nutritious meals. We also assisted with REACHH’s summer fun program, engaging children in arts and crafts.
Using the SkillStreaming Curriculum, we focused on building friendships and teaching team-building skills. One highlight was an activity where kids worked together to make a pyramid, fostering a sense of cooperation and good sportsmanship. They also created “good job/good try” construction paper compliments to share with peers, promoting positivity and encouragement.
We also participated in the Genius Camp at Talcott Elementary, themed “Discovering West Virginia.” Students enjoyed weekly adventures to beautiful locations in the state, including a boat regatta at Pipestem State Park where they tested boats they built during camp. These excursions provided hands-on STEM learning and exploration, making the summer both educational and unforgettable.
As we wrap up our summer programs, we’re collecting donations for back-to-school supplies at various locations, including First Community Bank, City National Bank, Summers County Library, and REACHH. Your generous contributions will help ensure students are well-prepared for the upcoming school year. The ESMH program has been wonderful this summer, fostering creativity, building friendships, and making a positive difference in the lives of our students.
