Genetic, Environmental, and Individual Factors (Part 1)

Course Description

In this training, the first of a two-part series, participants will learn about risk and protective factors, including genetic, individual, and environmental domains. The more risk factors a person has, the greater the chance that alcohol, cannabis, and other drug use will lead to addiction. Protective factors, on the other hand, reduce an individual’s risk for addiction.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the risk factors associated with developing a substance use disorder (SUD).
  2. Understand critical protective factors associated with preventing SUD among adolescents.
  3. Identify individual risk factors across genetic, environmental and individual domains.
