Valley PK8 in Fayette County held their Olweus Bullying Prevention Program Kickoff on October 12. Crystal Criswell, School Mental Health Coordinator for Marshall University School Health Technical Assistance Center (MUSHTAC) in the Division of Community Health, Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine attended the event. Before the festivities, she met with the school’s Project AWARE team including Rhonda Chuyka, Fayette’s AWARE Project Coordinator, to reflect on the project’s successes, goals, and challenges. The team gifted Crystal with one of the Bullying Prevention tshirts that they distributed to staff members.

The Kickoff was a huge success that students and staff alike seemed to enjoy. After briefly discussing the definition of bullying and the list of expectations, students and staff faced off in an exciting game of basketball. The staff members were “bullying” the students, but they didn’t win! At the sound of the buzzer, a student threw a final shot to bring the score to 28-23. The gym erupted in cheering and applause.
