WVESMH & AWARE at Prevention Day

The West Virginia Prevention First Alliance hosted the 2024 Prevention Day at the Legislature on March 4th. Prevention Day brought communities together to talk about the importance of prevention. Youth groups, community members and prevention professionals spoke about issues in their communities and educated relative to efforts in place to prevent and intervene early in the issues that impact our state. Exhibitor topics included substance use, suicide, tobacco and bullying prevention as well as supports available in communities for all ages.
Garrett Keefer and Brooke Nelson from the WVDoHS’s Bureau for Behavioral Health and Tiffany Pittman from  The Marshall University School Health Technical Assistance Center (MUSHTAC) in the Division of Community Health, Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine represented WV Expanded School Mental Health and WV Project AWARE at the event. They were thrilled to see multiple youth groups, family visitors to the capitol and legislators interacting with over 65 exhibitors throughout the event.
